When it comes to buying lingerie, women can spend a full day in only one store. We try things on, we try other things on, and then we try the first thing on again. It drives men crazy because they don’t understand that we are looking for something more than simply proper fit. In the case of lingerie (as with any clothing purchase) we are looking for a particular feeling from the apparel. We want to buy lingerie that makes us feel a special way. For this reason, it is particularly difficult for men to buy lingerie for women.

If you intend to purchase intimate lingerie for your lady, there is likely only one reason. Tread carefully when you decide you would like your lady to have a certain look or because you do not like the way she looks in her current lingerie inventory. Women often jump to assumptions when you present her with something completely different from her usual style. For instance, a woman might interpret your gift as ‘you hate my taste in lingerie’ or as ‘you want me to look like a prostitute or your ex-girlfriend.’ While her instincts may be right on target, you need to take care with what you say in reference to you intimate lingerie gift. Saying the wrong thing could reduce your chances of seeing her in the lingerie to zero.

It is a good idea to make sure you know what sort of lingerie your lady prefers. The first time you buy her lingerie, you might want to buy reasonably in line with her current inventory. Otherwise, you might scare her off or insult her. This is why it could be a good idea to go and look in her lingerie drawer to see what type lingerie she already has. A word of warning at this point is advisable. Underwear drawers are considered private by most women and they are quite likely to keep other things in this drawer that they do not intend you to see. If you find anything here that you were not looking for and wish you had never seen, keep it to yourself. After all, you went looking, fully aware of the risks.

While you are in the lingerie drawer pay particular attention to the lingerie currently residing in the drawer. Does she seem to like a particular color? Does her lingerie collection edge towards a particular kind of fabric – is there a lot of lace or silk? Does she like things with frills or simple designs? Does she have a preference for pictures on her lingerie? Does she have a secret love of vinyl or leather?

Once you know what she likes, decide whether to stick close to her taste or to go for what you like. When in doubt, go for what you like. If the relationship is reasonably secure, the worst that can happen is that she never wears it or possibly throws it at your head. Lingerie is very lightweight so getting it in the face won’t cause any lasting effects.
